Why are the people going to speak on that day?
December 15th is the anniversary of the bill of rights, and therefore a fitting day to show some support for a man who will protect our rights!

He might not get much attention from the media, but when he does get a moment to speak, he makes the most of it:

He voted against the war in Iraq, against funding the war, and against the "Patriot Act". Once he's president, he will repeal the patriot act and bring our troops home RIGHT AWAY!!!
He is the man who attempted to have Cheney impeached for starting a war based on lies, and he is going to try for impeachment again, because we don't want a war in Iran too!

He wants to make healthcare available to all Americans by switching to a not-for-profit healthcare system, taking care of the people instead of the corporations.

He wants to get us out of NAFTA and the WTO, because those agreements are clearly not doing us any good. We need jobs back in the USA, we need to protect our consumers from dangerous products being imported but not adequately regulated, and this is the first step toward making those things happen.

Happy (turkeyless) Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tomorrow, I will be enjoying corn pie, sweet potato rolls, squash, and vegan pumpkin pie. I have never enjoyed thanksgiving dinner so much as I do now that mine is completely vegan! For some reason, knowing that what I am eating didn't cause suffering and will not cause damage to the earth makes it easier to be thankful.

One thing about Thanksgiving that still gets under my skin is the president's annual turkey pardon. I think it's just plain sick. What crime did this turkey commit that it needs a pardon to avoid execution? If people are so happy to see this turkey being named and saved from death, how can they turn around and rejoice in dining on the dead body of another turkey two days later?

This particular topic leads me to an interesting thought -- what will happen to that tradition if Dennis Kucinich becomes president in 2008 (a girl can hope, can't she)? He already saves a turkey every year on thanksgiving by not eating it; that is one of the great things about veganism, after all. I hope we get the chance to find out!

Foie Gras and Amyloidosis

You would think that the way foie gras is obtained would be enough to turn anyone's stomach, but maybe new research will change the minds of omni's who still eat the dish made of liver from force-fed geese. Apparently, ingesting foie gras may cause a disease called Amyloidosis, which affects the heart, kidneys, nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, and sometimes a blood condition.
Who would think that eating diseased organs might cause health problems?

Well, here we are, and for once, I'm not quite sure what to say. You will have to forgive me; this is my first real blog. By that, I mean this is my first blog not about the day-to-day happenings of my own life. As much as possible, Veggieful is going to be about something other than me. That something, as you may have guessed, is vegan living. I intend to include a variety of things related to veganism, like recipes, product reviews, news, and whatever else might be of interest. Bear in mind that I'm figuring this out as I go along, and I promise things will pick up once I get the hang of this. And of course, if you have any suggestions or questions, please let me know!
